Children in Need - 2007

The Wenhaston Girls sang on national television on Friday night as part of Children in Need 2007.

The four opening lines of Bohemian Rhapsody, sung by the girls in four part acapella harmony, was introduced by Stuart White of BBC LookEast at the Children in Need live event at Tattershalls in Newmarket.

To raise funds the girls had held an open singing lesson to learn the song at New Cut in Halesworth on Tuesday 13th November and raised £200 from friends and families who came along to sing! The event was enormous fun and included dividing the singers into parts and learning sections of the song for a final live performance on stage at New Cut. The rehearsal lasted about an hour and a half and was run by Musical Director Jana Rowland and regular accompanist Will Ferguson.

' It was certainly one of the funniest things I have ever done!' said Jana Rowland, after the event, 'the choir had to sing all their lines while our audience sang along and attempted to perform the song too! It's a really complicated and operatic song, which made the performance of it all the more entertaining. AND all funds raised went to such a good cause'.

' The BBC invited us, along with lots of other young people to attend the studios at Tattershalls in Newmarket to share in the live programme on Friday. As we arrived the Producer asked us to explain what we had done to raise our money and so we sang the song instead. The Producers decided to let us sing live which was an asbolute joy - and has given the girls a really wonderful experience of live TV. Radio Suffolk also interviewed the girls who sang a longer portion of the song live on radio with Sue Marchant'.

We met Frankie Dettori and lots of the BBC crew. We attended the whole show and had lots of fun watching how the programme was made.

The programme did not finish until about half past nine so it was a really late night home for some of the younger girls but worth every minute!
